How do you build a dynasty in school rugby? St Mary's College in Wellington have been quietly answering that question for a decade.

In 2025 the St Mary's College Premier 1 side won their tenth consecutive Wellington girls' title, a run ClubRugby.nz neatly summed up as "a 10-peat of titles for the St Mary's College Premier 1 rugby team".

The final itself was emphatic. St Mary's beat Wellington East Girls' College 98-0 at Porirua Park, according to ClubRugby.nz, a performance that showed just how far ahead the champions have moved at the top of the regional competition.

Right wing Ana Kerr led the way. ClubRugby.nz reported that she scored a first-half hat-trick and kicked five conversions for 25 points, before laying on a try with an assist early in the second spell.

The title was no one-off flurry either. The same report noted St Mary's finished the season with 336 points for and just 44 against, a defensive and attacking record that speaks to a settled, well-drilled team rather than a handful of standout games.

The season did not stop at the regional silverware. St Mary's carried their form into the Hurricanes schoolgirls competition and reached the final for the Rex Kerr Cup.

There they met Manukura, and ClubRugby.nz reported a 30-17 win for the Palmerston North side, the defending national champions. St Mary's pushed hard in the second half, with the same report describing how they "fought hard to the end" as their forwards grew into the contest.

Coming up short in a regional final against one of the country's strongest programmes is hardly a knock. It is the kind of measuring stick that tends to sharpen a group, and few teams get to test themselves at that level year after year.

Ten titles in a row is a remarkable stretch for any school, and it points to a rugby culture that keeps producing players and keeps drawing new ones in. For the girls pulling on the St Mary's jersey, the standard is now sky high.
