Scotland v All Blacks teams: Jordie Barrett back, Beauden Barrett set to equal McCaw's 148 Tests
Both teams for Murrayfield, side by side. Jordie Barrett returns and Ethan de Groot starts at loosehead for the All Blacks, where Beauden Barrett is set to equal Richie McCaw's 148 Tests; Scotland pick ten Glasgow players and Finn Russell wins his 96th cap.
Thursday, 5 November 2026

Both teams are named for Murrayfield, and the All Blacks bring two of their most experienced players straight back in. Jordie Barrett returns from injury at second five-eighth and Ethan de Groot starts at loosehead prop, the only changes to the starting side that beat Australia 43-21 in Sydney on 17 October. Codie Taylor captains the side. Kick-off is 3.10am on Sunday 8 November, New Zealand time (2.10pm on Saturday in Edinburgh), live on Sky Sport.
If he takes the field, fullback Beauden Barrett will play his 148th Test and draw level with Richie McCaw as the second most-capped All Black. Only Sam Whitelock, with 153, has played more.
Scotland have picked ten Glasgow Warriors players in their starting side, led by centre Sione Tuipulotu, and Finn Russell is set for his 96th Scotland cap. Scotland are still chasing a first win over the All Blacks after 33 Tests.

The starting XV has 847 Tests between them and the full 23 has 1,049. There are no debutants: the two uncapped players in the touring squad, prop Saula Ma'u and first five-eighth Josh Jacomb, are not in the 23.
What changed from Sydney
Head coach Dave Rennie has made five changes to the match-day 23, two of them in the starting side.
- Loosehead prop: de Groot starts. George Bower, who started in Sydney, moves to the bench.
- Second five-eighth: Jordie Barrett is back from injury. Timoci Tavatavanawai, who wore 12 in Sydney, is on the bench.
- Bench: hooker Asafo Aumua comes in for Samisoni Taukei'aho (calf), loose forward Christian Lio-Willie for Shannon Frizell (knee), and loose forward Anton Segner for Du'Plessis Kirifi, who is not on the tour.
- Out of the 23: prop Xavier Numia and outside back Chay Fihaki, both on the bench in Sydney, are in the touring squad but not in this team.
Everything else is as it was in Sydney: Taylor and Fletcher Newell in the front row with de Groot, Scott Barrett and Fabian Holland at lock, the loose forward trio of Tupou Vaa'i, Peter Lakai and Wallace Sititi, and Cam Roigard at halfback. Damian McKenzie starts at first five-eighth with Beauden Barrett at fullback, the pairing Rennie signalled when he named the squad. "I really like him and Beauden together," he said then. Quinn Tupaea is at centre, with Josh Moorby and Will Jordan on the wings.
Milestones
These are RUGBE's counts from our match-by-match All Blacks data; the team release did not list milestones.
- Beauden Barrett: 148th Test, equal with Richie McCaw for second on the All Blacks list. Sam Whitelock holds the record with 153.
- Codie Taylor: 115th Test and his fourth as captain. His first three were a loss to South Africa in Baltimore, then wins at Eden Park and in Sydney.
- Scott Barrett: 92nd Test. Rieko Ioane would also reach 92 if he comes off the bench.
Who is missing
The All Blacks are without captain Ardie Savea (shoulder), Samisoni Taukei'aho (calf), Shannon Frizell (knee), Tyrel Lomax (neck), Leroy Carter (ankle), Ruben Love (ankle), Luke Jacobson (elbow), Caleb Clarke (shoulder) and Ollie Norris (knee). Simon Parker is unavailable for personal reasons.
Richie Mo'unga is on tour but was ruled out of this Test with a calf injury when the squad was named. "Richie won't be available for Scotland," Rennie said, and called him a good chance for Wales. RNZ expects Leicester Fainga'anuku, who is coming back from a broken leg and a concussion, to be considered for Wales rather than Murrayfield.
Poppies and black armbands
The All Blacks will wear their white jersey carrying a poppy for Armistice Day, and black armbands in memory of their head of security, Logan Cadwallader, who died in Edinburgh on Sunday 1 November. "It's been a really tough week for our group," Rennie said. Our tribute to Logan is here.
On the opposition, Rennie was direct. "Scotland are a quality side," he said in the team release, and he called Murrayfield "an iconic place to play".

Gregor Townsend named his team on Thursday afternoon in Edinburgh. Clubs are as listed by Scottish Rugby.

- Captain: Sione Tuipulotu, with 41 caps, 15 of them as captain before this week. Kyle Steyn and Rory Darge are vice-captains.
- Glasgow's day: ten of the starting XV play for Glasgow Warriors, including both locks and both flankers. No 8 Jack Dempsey plays his club rugby in Japan.
- Finn Russell: his 96th Scotland cap, and his seventh Test this year alongside halfback Ben White. Counting his British and Irish Lions Tests, the BBC reports it will be his 100th international.
- No debutants: the least experienced player in the 23 is reserve hooker Gregor Hiddleston, with three caps.
- Not in the 23: lock Jonny Gray (83 caps) and wings Darcy Graham and Duhan van der Merwe are in Townsend's 37-man squad but not in this team. Scottish Rugby's release did not say why.
- Flanker Jamie Ritchie (knee) and prop Elliot Millar Mills (leg) were ruled out after injuries playing for their clubs. Edinburgh's uncapped prop Ollie Blyth-Lafferty, prop D'arcy Rae and flanker Freddy Douglas were called in.
- Scotland's last Test was a 33-17 win over Fiji at Murrayfield on 18 July, with 14 changes from the side that lost 42-28 to South Africa in Pretoria a week earlier.
Scotland have never beaten the All Blacks in 33 Tests, with 31 losses and two draws. The last four meetings were all decided by eight points or fewer, and last year's finished 25-17.
